Coloring process
COLOR IN MATERIAL:
-
If the smooth concrete gray color is suitable then of course the shade of gray is determined by the color of the cement itself.
-
To achieve the white color shade we use white cement when mixing the concrete, although its price is at least twice that of Portland cement.
- The use of white cement is also recommended when using brighter colors when mixing concrete in the forced mixer with powder paint based on iron oxide pigment to color the entire material of the edging. The powder paint must be measured exactly in proportion to the weight of the cement, a maximum of 7%. Gray cement is recommended for darker shades. You must always use a scale when applying the paint if you need more than one mixer of concrete of the same color.
SURFACE COLORING
Another way of coloring is to pour a thin layer of glaze - consisting of fine sand, cement and iron oxide paint - on the already poured fresh concrete edge, which connects it to the edge. The advantage is that much more intense colors can be achieved with the glaze when coloring the material, and much less paint is required.
The disadvantage is the additional work and the slowing down of the work, since the glaze must be applied almost immediately to the still completely poured concrete edge - this is especially important on warmer and windier days due to the intensity of evaporation. If the glaze cannot connect to the concrete edge due to the delay, it may become crusty and eventually crack. For longer edges, it results in a significant slowdown of work.
PATTERN
Sampling can be used during both concrete colorings either with a pressure sample or a pressure roller. The pattern application tool is dipped in an even finer paint called RELEASE POWDER, so the pattern gives a second, different color to our concrete border, but the pattern making tool does not stick to the fresh glaze or concrete. Once all this has been ironed, a third color can be delicately applied with the help of a fine sieve - even achieving an antique effect.
The range of variations is endless, you can decorate your garden with a concrete border that best suits everyone's imagination and taste.
SURFACE TREATMENT
Once the coloring is finished, the surface is treated with a synthetic resin solution which is absorbed into the top layer of the concrete, closing its pores - thereby making it waterproof from above and more resistant to sunlight. Since the moisture can only escape in the direction of the ground, we do not have to worry about sudden drying out, the resulting cracks, or later dusting. The synthetic resin also forms a very hard wearing layer on the surface of the concrete, which is many times the strength of smooth concrete.
PROCESSING COLOR APPLICATION
Another type of coloring is possible, when a layer of colored synthetic resin is applied to the border that is almost free from coloring. In this case, it is no longer possible to apply more colors, the surface treatment is also done with the coloring. The advantage is color accuracy and easier execution.
